While Employed by the Cult - Part 1
As I told you yesterday I am going to start sharing some of the craziness of my new job.
First I need to kind of set the scene if you will. We have the manager and her boyfriend (who is guess what??? The Assistant Manager). Now yes there are more people but most of the time it really does involve these two the most.
Everyone in my store and actually through the whole company is a little to "happy" for my taste. I am a nice person don't get me wrong but I don't walk around all day with me head in the clouds either. I mean I know there is world hungry and unemployment and health care problems...I am really thinking some of my co-workers do not know or have no clue about any of it.
We work on commission. We are suppose to sell about $100 per hour. Our sales from the previous week determine our schedules for next week....are you lost yet? Anyway this would not be a hard goal really considering that almost every pair of jeans we have in the store is over $100. So if I sell a pair of jeans an hour I am doing great....but who in the hell right now is buying $100 pair of jeans?
So before I lose you let me just say that I am not a pushy person and I hate pushy sales people! But it is REQUIRED that we be pushy and REQUIRED that we push and push and push everything....if you get someone in a fitting room you must push the jeans, the shirts and the shoes.
So while I am trying to do my job and not be to pushy my manager is always coming around asking what their name is and what they are trying on and how could I do or show more products to this person. She will always, and I mean always, say "AWESOOOOME" in her sweet little northern voice before walking off to check on another sales person and say the exact same "AWESOOOOME" to them. This cracks me up all the time...one day I am going to record her saying this so we can all laugh together.
Her other word is "definitely" no matter what you say she will either answer awesoooome (really drawn out) or definitely. I swear I could ask her if the sky was red and she would say "definitely Shelly thanks for pointing that out it's awesoooome."
So as you can now imagine I walk around the house going "wow that's awesome" and "sure definitely" every chance I get and Dominic cracks up with the way I say it (I do sound just like her when i do it)...I swear I will tape her so you can hear it for your self!

Hmmm, now you have me wondering. After living for 21 years in Ohio and Pennsylvania, I KNOW I say awesome and definitely. all. the. time. I guess I never realized it is a regional thing?

love this post. I was in sales for a short time (sold foreign language classes). Hated being pushy. Had to for commission reasons.
Not quite the same - but I had a co-worker at last place that said 'right?' after EVERY BLESSED STATEMENT he made. I hated being in a meeting with him. I so wanted to say on my last day of work... after he said right? No, you are wrong (even if he was right).
Do you still do the crock pot cooking on Sundays? I just got a new one, and was looking for recipes.
